My August Reading List

In the last few weeks I have been reading quite a lot of books. Every book is teaching me something new. Its a pleasure disappearing into the world another writer has created.

I keep hearing that reading is like doing homework for writers, so I guess I am doing lots of homework this month.

I have a simple goal for August: to revise the manuscript I am querying, to outline the 3 books of the Zespirit Chronicles and read as many book as I can.

I am quite excited by my August reading list.

1. Servant of the Bones by Anne Rice. (I am keen to read it, its my first brush with Anne Rice)

2. The Devotion of Suspect by Keigo Higashino. ( The book is being pitched as the Japanese Stieg Larsson)

3. River of Smoke by Amitav Ghosh. (I read the first book of the trilogy- Sea of Poppies and look forward to reading this.

4. Divergent by Veronica Roth. (I had to order this book as it was not available in India. I have been hearing a lot about it)

5. WITCH. (I try to add a Middle Grade book to my reading list every month)

What are your August plans? Are you writing, revising, editing, querying? I would love to know which books are on your reading list this month. Have you read any of the books on my reading list? If yes, what's your opinion about the book?

  1. I am reading a lot too, but not as updated as you or Anna. I'm carrying a project on autobiography with my students. Any suggestion about Indian writers worth reading will be appreciated!

    Keigo Higashino sounds appealing!

  2. If reading is like doing homework for writers, then I'm due to be punished - lots of "homework detention" for me! LOL.
    I'll gladly accept my punishment!
I love the mixed selection on your reading list.

  3. My homework is to read whatever comes by. One nice book 'Jack Straight from the Gut' by Jack Welch, I am slowly chewing and digesting:)

  6. I'm reading Gone Girl right now and loving it. I read Divergent last summer and would be interested to hear your opinion when you've finished.

  7. I'm reading more now, too--more than at the beginning of the summer anyway. Mostly MG and YA historicals--Dangerous Neighbors by Beth Kephart and The Color of Fire, Ann Rinaldi. Oh, and Elizabeth George's Write Away which is great inspiration. Enjoy your reading--so much more fun than homework since we get to choose :-)

  8. You've picked some great books. August for me will be editing my current WIP. I'd like to finish it as soon as I can.

  9. On my reading list are Don Quixote (currently reading), Anna Karenina, Citizen of the Galaxy by Robert A. Heinlein, and Chomp by Carl Hiaasen. And those are just the ones I remember offhand . . . there are more on hold at the library. :P

  10. Hi friends, I see that everyone one is super busy this month either editing, revising or writing the first draft. Good luck with all your writing!

Do try to fit in a book or two as homework reading ;)

  11. Sounds like some interesting yoga for the mind.

I'm concentrating on stuff for my new job about Autism and behaviour management and non violent communication.

Other than that I have Runemarks and A Rural Affair as my bedtime reads.

  12. I love reading but I don't know why I sleep over as I flip pages.... I can't get it!

Good Luck with the reading. If the books are available online, I would love to go through ones as well :D

  13. Hey I too have ‘Devotion of Suspect X’ on my TBR pile. I saw it in my library and instantly pounced on it! I’ve started it but the first few pages are a bit laborious though I think they can be powered through.

  14. I like that - reading as homework. :) There are a bunch of things on my plate this month, articles, reading and reviews, and a chapter in the WIP.

    Happy Monday!

  15. Homework for writers? I could take some of that with Amitav Ghosh as my amanuensis!

  16. I'm taking a break from writing until after my novel launches, and meanwhile I have a lot of reading to catch up on. Totally agree that it's a writer's homework!

  17. I think I'm going to stick to some light reading this month - drama/ romance kind. Your list is heavy-duty, in a nice way:)
