On March 22nd, I will complete four
years of blogging. It’s been pretty smooth sailing so far, just a few minor
hiccups. I have made loads of good friends, learnt lots about writing and the
publishing world and become smarter where queries and submissions are
concerned. Most of my blog buddies have become great friends.
I just have a few blogging bugbears to talk about.
So many bloggers who start following me leave no trail which I can pick up and follow
them back. There is no link to take me to their blog. And as they have not left
any comment it becomes difficult to follow them back. I would like to follow
everyone who follows me, but unfortunately I cannot do that. Many times I
google that blogger’s name and see if I can find their blog.
Many bloggers who have linked back to their blogs
have so many blogs that it becomes difficult to know which to follow. Sometimes,
I have to wade through all their blogs to see which one has been updated
recently. Sadly, many of these blogs have seen no posting from months. Please,
put the name of the blog wherein you post more often on top, making it easy for
us to follow and leave a comment.
And then there is the word verification. You heard
right. Some bloggers have not got rid of the word verification. This has
single-handedly driven me up the wall. They are like pot-holes that I have to
navigate in blogosphere.
What do you think of all the issues I have written
about? Are any of these your personal bugbears? Have I forgotten anything that makes our blogging experience difficult?
Congratulations Rachna! that you learnt to walk( now four) while I am still crawling( 2+)! A blog from where I learnt a lot and wishing you many more books and blogs to your credit!
ReplyDeleteTashi Delek, Rachna! It's wonderful to know your experience as a blogger. And you have blogging for the past four years, quite amazing. I do read your blog, especially those stories related to writing and publishing. Honestly, I learned many things things from here. Thank you and congrats!
ReplyDeleteAwesome you've been blogging for 4 years.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I try to follow people back and sometimes have to hunt through their blog links only to find they haven't posted in years. Your suggestion is a good one.
And I hate the word verification too because you can't always read the words to type in. Sometimes I have to do it 3 times to get it right. What a waste of time.
Almost four years - that's cool!
ReplyDeleteI feel bad when I can't track down a blogger and have searched his name trying to find a blog.
Both of them don't bother me much. There are so many other things that take their place, though. After all, blogs are a reflection of real-life and there will be all kind of people in it.

They bug me too - and I'm afraid to say, if I can't find them, or can't decide which is the right blog to read, I give up. I have so many other blogs to read, I can't go on a treasure hunt. Actually, that sounds harsher than I was expecting it to.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed the same thing too. Like you, I like to visit followers and support them, but some leads go nowhere at all, just a picture.
ReplyDeleteAs for the word verification, I resisted that for so long, but then noticed that spammers were taking advantage of that. When verifying on other blogs, I don't really mind that too much, since I remember how much more annoying it was to learn spammers were abusing my blog. And it was a lot of work to go back and remove their posts.
Happy birthday to your blog, Rachna! I enjoyed this post. Yes, this has happened to me too.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.
In some cases I've had to use Google to track down new followers so I can follow them back. Would make life a lot easier if they just left a link.

Well done for four years blogging.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
Hi Rachna,
ReplyDeleteAnd soon you will have reached your fourth anniversary of blogging. Despite the occasional potholes on the blogging road, some most positive outcomes.
I most certainly relate to your concerns. One way I always am aware of postings is those who have the feature that allows you to follow by email. I do this with your site. The word verification does my head in. I keep it as simple as possible. My biggest peeve is those who have me directed to Google+. It becomes a magical mystery tour just to find their blog.
A good weekend to you.
Gary
I posted about a week ago about this very thing. I will respond to a comment, only to find seven or eight blog links to choose from. Most have been dormant for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteClean these up, people. Delete them. Most people will simply keep moving on.
Four years is a great achievement, congrats on that. Think I'm probably coming up to three. Blogs that leave no followable trail - yes annoying and sad because I like to try and interact with people who take the time to come visit me.
ReplyDeleteHi friends, unbelievable that I am going to complete 4 years of blogging in less than three weeks. I am learning lots and enjoying every moment of it and also meeting wonderful writers from around the world.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I am part of your blog group! I too hate word verification. I've had to not leave a comment so many times.
ReplyDeleteYes, to everything! I also add that I don't like completing forms on blogs in order to comment. I do it, but I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI find the same thing. Just last week I had to click through ten blogs posted on someone's profile. Meanwhile, nine of those blogs were old and obsolete, so they should be deleted.
ReplyDeleteWord verification bothers me a lot since captchas have become more difficult.
I also don't like Google profiles. Some bloggers don't have a link of their own blog on them.
I HATE the word verification. And I feel so bad when I can't track someone down and can't follow them back. I took my follower button down though. Great to see you, Rachna!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 4 years! I am thankful we've had the pleasure of meeting through blogging.
ReplyDeleteI too, find those issues challenging. Some visitors are just impossible to find, others have so many places to visit and you must choose...it is a little frustrating. Don't care for the word verification either, especially if I am short on time. But I guess you could say these things help us build character, right? lol
Have a great week!
It's rare I'll click on every single painfully long list of blogs someone has when most of them are inactive. I want to poke my eyes out and move on ;)
