Tell me a few things about yourselves

In March I will be completing five years of blogging. So far I have stuck only to writing related topics, never straying even a little distance away. I am sure I must have bored many of you to tears with my non-stop blabbering about writing, story, characters, plots etc. It’s a huge achievement for me that you all have stuck to me inspite of that.

When I am on a blog break, my mind meanders towards many of you all. I wonder if Alex is playing his guitar or visiting his 200th blog of the day, then I think of my crit partner Mark and whether he has had any publisher interest for his MS, whether Lynda is making inroads with her game development, then I think of Rahul and wonder which new destination he has blogged about, or I groan about missing Alka’s latest post or wonder what Rajesh is up to. As most of my blog buddies have become my good friends, they occupy my mind space. We have celebrated each other’s success, groaned at the near misses and generally stuck together through the years.

But this year, I want to do things differently. I want to get to know all of you a little better. And by that I mean getting to know you all not just as a writer or a blogger, but as a person. Honestly, other than your writing interests, I don’t know what keeps you all ticking.

I will start with myself. I have always wanted to try scuba diving, learn to cook different cuisines and learn a new language or two (which I am bad at). I definitely want to travel not just abroad but also in India. There are so many amazing places in India (Hampi, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Goa, Pondicherry, Rishikesh, Coorg). I have only heard about these places, I want to visit them all. I have also been thinking of doing a script writing course. If I get over my fear of needles, I would love a tattoo (a small one). And I would also love to learn baking (my cakes and cookies are just about edible), especially my favourite: brownie. I would also like to try gardening (though I am not much of a green thumb girl).

What about you all? What are things you want to do? Places you want to visit? Learn new things? Maybe streak that hair or go for a new style? I want to know it all.

  1. Nice post Rachna and a big thanks to see my name in the list:) Will not disappoint you and will write my next post on a new destination again! My other interests that keep me going is passion to read, indulge in Yoga and Gym, cook and bake, chat and keep pace with fast changing technology!

  2. I'd like to go on an air balloon ride one day. I'd also like to visit Hawaii and Alaska, the far-flung U.S. states. I want to start painting again, but haven't had time.

  3. Ooh, you want to know our secrets! Just kidding! For me, apart from writing, I love the dance classes at my gym, especially to Bollywood songs but lately I’ve added the latest English hits to my repertoire as well. I’d love to get a tattoo, but I haven’t yet decided what it would be and where I’d make it.

  4. Right now I just want to find a new job. With my husband's death last March and my daughter's going to college in the Fall, I feel my whole life is being reinvented. For now, I'm trying to just take care of myself by meditating and exercising daily.

    1. Natalie, meditating and exercising daily is good. I exercise daily but my meditation has stopped. Need to restart it.

  5. I'm torn between two worlds, writing and painting. I enjoy both about equally, and dividing my time between them is difficult. One usually takes precedence over the other for a while, then I may switch to the other for a while. Family matters also take up much of my time. I just keep doing things the best I can.

    1. Richard, I envy people who paint. At one time I wanted to learn painting, but with work pressures, that dream has been pushed to the back of my mind.

  6. Thanks, Rachna, I'm nearly eighty, so a bit late for changes, all I would like is for my husband have less illness, and, if so, to be able to write more books :0)

  7. I want to visit China, and write a non-fiction book about the people/systems there. I want to learn a bit of graphic design and photography which will be useful to enhance my blog posts. I want to read more, and write more short stories (for practice). My want to do list is very big, actually! And I generally do what I want to, someday.

    1. Destination Infinity, I too would like to visit China and as for reading more, you must see the cupboards in my room, they are crammed with all the books that I need to read. God knows when I will get to them.

  8. You have my permission to create a garden in my back yard.
Guitar playing does occupy a lot of my free time.
I want to try zip lining. I think it would be fun.
Now I'm off to meet that two hundred blogs quota!

  10. I've done the same thing with my blog for the past three years, but I'm trying to change that now.

I would love to go to Ireland, Arizona, and Venice, Rome. I also want to have a garden...a big elaborate garden. :D

  11. One thing I want to do is walk a section of the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. I see the pilgrims on the road everytime we go to Galicia, and the idea has haunted me for years. I need to do some more walking here and get in shape, though.

  12. Tattoos are neat. I have a couple and would like to get two more. I'm hoping to travel more, day trips and maybe a weekend getaway. And I want to go to a writers conference, money providing.

When I'm away from the blogs, I wonder what all my friends are up to also. I always have to sneak in and read a few posts :)

    1. Donna, you have two tattoos and you would like to get two more?! I think one would be more than enough for me. A weekend getaway will be great for me as I desperately need a break from my routine. I would love to go on a writers conference, but sadly we don't have them in India.
