My September IWSG Post

Today I again completely forgot about IWSG. It was while having my tea, I realized that today is the first Wednesday of the month. I literally gulped my tea and switched on my computer and started typing.

IWSG (Insecure Writers Support Group) is a super awesome group of wonderful writers, who all post on the first Wednesday of the month. IWSG has taken on the onus of providing all kinds of support to its members, in the way of informative posts on the IWSG website, holding Twitter pitch contests and conducting story contests as well as many other things. Our IWSG posts focus on our writing fears and insecurities. The IWSG website is a wonderful source of writing information.

IWSG was started by Ninja Captain, Musician, Cyber Rockstar and Online Celebrity - Alex J Cavanaugh (author of Amazon Bestsellers: CassaStar, CassaStorm, CassaFire and Dragon of the Stars).

September question: If you could pick one place in the world to sit and write your next story, where would it be and why?

If I could pick one place to write quietly, without disturbance, it would be my room, where I have done some of my best writing, because If I were to go to some faraway and exotic location, I would be too distracted by my surroundings. Though I would love to use a faraway location as the setting of my story.

What about you all? Which is your sweet spot for writing?

  1. Maybe you forgot it was IWSG day because you're feeling super secure! :)

I think I would be distracted if I was somewhere exotic, too.

  2. That's probably my sweet spot for writing as well.

  3. Would love to write somewhere that is peaceful, beautiful, but given my circumstances, I’m like more people, Rachna, and write wherever and whenever I can. Keep up the good work 🌹

  4. Yes I agree. Close the door and open the window for a nice breeze and the sounds of nature. Perfect writing setting.

  5. That's very true about being distracted by going to a faraway location. I've always wanted to go to Ireland, but I doubt I'd get any writing one while there.

  6. I guess that would be the problem, especially if it is somewhere you have always wanted to visit. I chose a place I was familiar with so hopefully that would help me be content to sit and create.

  7. A quiet place definitely helps, but I always need a source of natural light streaming in. I love interesting places for starting stories or working on description. And, because I've gotten used to ambient noise while writing, I crave it now that my daughters are off having adventures.

  8. I always write more at home, especially when there are no distractions! But that doesn't happen too often.

  9. My fiction series was all set in cities and locations I'd already visited, and it really does help. But for writing them, I needed to be at home.

  10. You and I were in the same boat this morning. It was after 10 when I read Nancy Gideon's FB notice about her IWSG post. Yikes! Like you, I hurried up and wrote my post. As you've already read my post, you know we think alike about our fav location to write. Whatever works right?

  11. Yep, faraway exotic locations inspire me, but mostly I need them to read and snooze.

I write tons once I'm back, in the silence, facing a blank wall.

  12. This month I was good. I planned. But I've been there too - gulping down my scalding tea to dash off an IWSG post.

  13. I totally agree with you. I'd much prefer to write at home.

  14. I love to daydream about going somewhere exotic but I think I'm the same - I do best just writing at home. Just as well really as it's a lot cheaper than traveling anywhere.

  15. I usually write in my room too! But it's fun to imagine writing someplace exotic.

  16. HI Rachna,

I totally agree with you! For me, writing at home is the best place for our imaginations to run wild!

  17. Rachna, you make a great point. There's no place like home to write a great story.
