Keeping yourself Inspired

Today, I am guest posting at Misha’s Blog- My First Book. My topic is Keeping yourself Inspired. Inspiration is important for every profession, be it writing, dancing, singing or anything else.

I tend to have these low inspiration days. During these days I am ensnared by all negative thoughts and feelings, where  my writing is concerned. I need to constantly motivate myself, else I will end up in a puddle of self-pity.

I would love to know the different ways you all inspire yourself. Is there any book you find particularly inspiring? Any person who is your inspiration?

I would love it if you all visit Misha’s Blog and let me know what you think of my post.

Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I push myself to read things that are difficult and unusual, out of my comfort zone. They usually help to inspire me.

  3. Hi Rachna
Good question. If my writing isn't happening I go for a walk or watch a film or read a book. The sunny weather also inspires me more than the dismal wet days.

BTW I have problems logging into and commenting on Misha's blog. No idea why. It's frustrating.

  4. I'll have to go check it out! Right now, I'm inspiring myself by rewarding a cookie for every two pages I write. I call it the desperation method. ;)

  6. Alex, I personally find inspiration in books.

Johanna, that's a good way to get inspired :)

Madeleine, taking long walks and reading books is also one of my ways to get inspired.

    Lydia, thanks.

Madeline, I like your cookie method of inspiration, or shall i call it reward or bribing ;)

Rahul, nature can indeed be inspiring, and friends too :)

  7. Good question! Sometimes I find inspiration in unlikely places. Visual images definitely help trigger inspirations.

Anwyay, off to check your post!

  8. Love this question. I either take a break or read books that I usually shy away from. Television shows and movies also help!

  9. I loved the interview, especially this part: "Do we have a right to deprive those people of inspiration, entertainment or bonding, because of our low self-esteem?"
This is an interesting approach which takes the focus away from the writer and his insecurities and instead highlights his accountability, to the myriad of readers waiting patiently... who are we to disappoint them?

With regards to inspiration, music always gives me a boost, as well as flash fic challenges.

  11. I struggle with confidence, too. So, it's good to know I'm not alone--which is why the blogosphere is so wonderful. Reading how other writers overcome their obstacles is inspiring.

Thanks again, Rachna, for another inspirational post!

  12. Great post! I find inspiration comes on its own and can't often be forced. It appears in a good book, a nice sunset, a droplet of rain, or some unexpected good news. Sometimes you don't have to look for it, but it comes looking for you:)

  14. I'm late to this, and I loved your post.

Reading great novels inspires me. I also tell myself that all writers have their own timelines. If something isn't happening for me right now or as fast I want it to, I believe that success will eventually occur.
