I have deliberately slowed down the pace of my writing
in the last few days. In the middle of January I managed to meet my deadline and
submitted my manuscripts to my editor and now comes the waiting game. Waiting
isn’t easy. But that’s life. In the meanwhile I’ll catch up on my reading,
until the revision notes pour in.
Then I realized that it was time for another IWSG.
January just flew away like a bird. But I’m glad that I wrote a lot in the
first two weeks of the month, but after that it was nil writing. Its Sunday
night here in India and I’m scheduling my IWSG post, well in advance. How is
that for being organized?
Though I have only met one writer
Elizabeth Vardan, when she visited India a few years back, I feel like I know
many of these IWSG writers personally, especially Alex J Cavanaugh, who started
this wonderful group. Don’t know why I feel a connection with Alex and few
other writers, like they are my close friends. Alex Cavanaugh is the author of several bestsellers: CassaStar, CassaStorm, CassaFire and Dragon of the
Stars. A warm-hearted human, helpful and kind, he is universally loved, though
none of us have even seen his picture. That’s because he is shy.

question - Has a single photo or work of art ever inspired a story? What was it
and did you finish it?
In my case it would be a big YES. Many
years back I saw the picture of a dog online and that picture inspired a middle
grade novel. Though I did submit it to a couple of agents, it didn’t work out.
I hope to revise it in a few weeks and start submitting it.
What about you all? Has a photo or work of art
inspired a story or a book?
Thank you - I feel the same way!
ReplyDeleteI remember you talking about that dog photo because you weren't a fan of dogs. I hope you get it revised and submit it again.
Maybe this month's IWSG question is a nudge from the universe to get revising that manuscript inspired by a photo. :)
ReplyDeleteThat’s great that you met your submission deadlines. Sometimes taking a break can be good to recharge and be productive again.
ReplyDeleteDo you still have that photo of the dog?
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten all about this, but many years ago I wrote a short story based on a Norman Rockwell painting. I need to dig through my old file box and see if I still have a copy (it was back in the days of typewriters and Liquid Paper...no computer).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on completing and submitting your next manuscript. Each time is a wonderful accomplishment.
For writer's, it's all about waiting. And like you stated, it isn't easy. I just handed off my ms to an agent, and the waiting is a nail-biter. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI think I remember you talking about that dog picture. I hope you will be able to go back and re-submit the story. It definitely seems like this month's question is a sign that you should.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the latest ms!
Congratulations on meeting your deadline!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're going to submit it again, always have something in the works. Yes, January was a big fast bird. :)
ReplyDeleteNice to know where your inspiration came from:)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to take this out of the laptop vault and edit them again! I'm kind of there, editing a piece I almost gave up on a few years ago! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteArt inspires me all the time. Have fun working on your edits!
ReplyDeleteBusy for the first of the year. I'm glad you're pacing yourself. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnna from elements of emaginette
It's good to change the pace of your work from time to time. And don't worry, we'll meet someday :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for your planned revisions...and waiting for those editorial notes :)
ReplyDeleteAlex really is a neat guy. He's so dedicated to this blog hop and always encouraging.
ReplyDeleteThat's great to start out the year/month writing all those words. Sometimes we do need to slow down and rest, though. I know I've had to. But even during a rest period of one or more days I have to at least write a half page of a journal entry. I feel too disconnected and like I'm losing something if I go a full day without writing.
Hi Rachma, I feel the same way. I have never met any of my blogging buds and budettes but I feel I know them very well.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteI'm always inspired by photo/picture prompts.
ReplyDeleteI hope to meet some of my bloggy buddies in the flesh... one day... that would be wonderful.
Hi Rachna,
ReplyDeleteYou bet! Visuals have ALWAYS inspired me. I am, after all, a visual artist myself. Glad to hear your writing is going so well!
I use any photo, any painting, any overheard snips of conversation, or anything available to get myself inspired. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Rachna!
Sounds like you've had a good start to the year. As you read in my post, I'm also returning to a previous work. Good luck with yours... hopefully there's life in the old dog yet, literally in this case!
