What Gayatri
doesn’t know is that at times I struggle to find a suitable topic to discuss. Earlier when I was posting twice a week, I
would go nuts trying to think of topics without repeating myself. Time
constraints and a lack of topics is one of the reasons I have reduced the
posting days.
As my blog is restricted to all aspects of writing,
I have limited things I can talk about. I would hate to bore my awesome blog
buddies and devoted readers by talking about I, Me and Myself. That’s why I
choose writing topics that will interest everyone, even those who are not
writers.
I often
choose a theme/topic which I am struggling with or which I find interesting
while writing my stories. If I am brainstorming a book, I blog about that. If I
am travelling the revision road, that topic finds its way into my blog. If I am
struggling with a resolution to a story, it becomes my theme for the post. If I
come across an interesting way of describing things, I discuss that.
Sometimes I
blog about a topic on which I need an opinion from my writing friends. When I
come across some writing tips, I am eager to share that through a post, so that
my blog buddies too benefit from it.
How do you choose your blog topic? Like me, do you
at times struggle to choose topics, or do the topics come knocking on your
door? What kind of blog topics do you like to write and read about? On another
note, which topics bore you? Please share your views with us?
Random thoughts are normally my inspiration Rachna:)
ReplyDeleteSometimes they just pop up and at other times I'm groping for ideas!
ReplyDeleteI do struggle at time to keep my blog focused on books or writing, but other topics work their way into my blog. We travel a lot, so those posts arose naturally. But sometimes art and gardening work their way in too. Right now I've been focused on my own writing, so I'm afraid I'm way behind in my blogging. Hope to get back to it soon, though. I actually miss it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever been stumped for something to blog about. Like you, Rachna, my blog is all about writing and it is such a vast subject that the possibilities are endless.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not writing about aspects of writing I'm plunging into blogfest challenges, submitting poems, haiku and flash fiction stories and joining in the myriad of other challenges such as Write1Sub1 and IWSG which talk about writing submissions successes and failures. I love blogging too much to get any real work done sometimes LOL!
Well, you saw my list. ;)
ReplyDeleteBut in reality, I usually end up picking a random topic that comes to mind or choosing from a list I occasionally (and not often enough) update.
Sorry, I never struggle, but I have a much different focus. With the Ninja News, guest posts, and entertainment, I can always come up with something.
ReplyDeleteI post three times a week. Between posts about writing, books I've read, guest posts, interviews, and blogfests, I'm rarely stumped. If I don't have a third post planned, I'll do a "random" post to share news and videos, which is still blogworthy.
ReplyDeleteRachna, I love that you always keep it real, and that is what comes through in your posts!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing what's on your heart.
Hi friends, I am glad to see that most of my blog buddies don't struggle for post topics. Its a tricky thing, trying to make our topics interesting as well as inviting feedback from our blog buddies.
ReplyDeleteI do struggle sometimes. That's why I'm at only one or two a week now. Sometimes I have to let ideas go by because I don't have the time to develop them into viable posts.
ReplyDeleteI keep my personal info to a minimum also, but I'm not just a writer - and every topic has been done and done - I'm a person to so I let some personal stuff that relates to writing get into a post at times.
I get more interested in reading blog posts than creating my own. Sometimes I latch onto a subject and read those exclusively, sometime there is nothing on the blogs I care to read.
I suppose it is like any other social context; sometimes you're excited, sometime you just don't want to go out . .
........dhole
Wow, I'm definitely not as organized as you but struggle a lot. I won't post if nothing comes to mind but I do agree with your friend: you always have interesting blog posts!
ReplyDeleteSince I cover science, sci-fi, writing, and promoting, I never run out of stuff to write.
ReplyDeleteWhat bores me: some interviews that ask the same questions like when did you firs know you were a writer.
I think anyone who blogs on a regular basis struggles with that. Some people make it look easy, but I'm sure they work at finding topics.
ReplyDeleteAfter blogging for over two years, I struggle with topics. But I also have the luxury of discussing more than just writing. Even so, it gets hard to find a topic!
ReplyDeleteYou have such entertaining posts... and it's always a learning experience too!
ReplyDeleteI do struggle with topics, but the further I get into my writing career, the more I have to blog about. When I learn something about writing along my journey I like to share it. Sometimes I post something I found amusing. And I love hosting other writers and helping them out. Somehow, something always comes up:)
ReplyDeleteGood question! Back in the days, when my time was mine (heh!), I was posting 5 days a week. I had a sort of pattern to my posts that I would follow. For instance, Mondays were for funnies (whether writing related or not), Tuesdays were for random thoughts, Wednesdays were for word games/flash fiction games, etc. Now, I'm lucky if I get to turn on my laptop. :D
ReplyDeleteYou're doing great with your posts. I always find your posts interesting. :)
Sometimes blog topics come easily, other times not so much. But then there are the fun times, when I'm actually exploring a writing theme I want to know more about, so I go ahead and post about it. Sometimes a post develops from a quote I've read. My problem is not having a set blogging schedule and/or getting sidetracked about the time I want to post. It's quite the balancing act, isn't it?
ReplyDeletesounds like we come up with blog topics in very similar ways. It's usually what I'm doing at the time. That's why I love it when someone asks me a question. It often helps me with a blog topic!
ReplyDeleteLike Gayatri I am amazed that you manage to write on topics which interest most writers.
ReplyDeleteRandom newspaper articles, television news and personal anecdotes work for me. I am struggling lately though.
Hmm... I pick them along the writing theme, whether they're from quotes on writing, or questions people asked. Or anything writing/blogging related that I find interesting.
ReplyDeleteI used to write more posts about my life, but then I decided to rather split that off to a blog of its own. It works quite well, I think. :-)
You always have awesome posts Rachna:) I find that I prefer not to plan my posts out too much. I like to live int he moment with them as much as possible. Although when good ideas occur to me, I do jot some titles down in case I'm low on inspiration later in the week.
ReplyDeleteI definitely have a hard time coming up with interesting and new things after more than 2 years! I also often get inspiration from whatever is currently challenging or inspiring me in my writing or reading. I do talk about some personal stuff too, though. You do a great job with your topics!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been a regular blogger for quite a few months so I haven't been coming up with a lot of ideas.
ReplyDeleteBut when I do blog regularly I take ideas from everywhere in life. When I'm out talking to my friends, when I'm watching tv, on the internet, stuff I come up with on my walks, etc. It's amazing how ideas can pop up from everywhere.
