When we read a book some characters just wriggle their
way into our hearts, tugging our heartstrings and making us worry about their
fate in the story. This is more so for the main characters who carries the
entire story on their shoulders. The credit here should go to the writers for
creating/writing such full-bodied three dimensional character readers can
identify with and fall in love with.
In the last couple of weeks I read many books where I
fell in love with the secondary characters. The authors had paid so much
attention to the secondary characters that they jumped out of the page leaving
me wondering how they would look like in real life, how they would dress up and
how they would talk, if ever I had the pleasure of meeting them.
I have to make an honest confession, in both the books
I think I fell in love the other characters as much as I adored the main
character. The author had imbued the secondary characters with so much life and
personality that they not just threatened the MC for a share of reader
affection but they also had the pleasure of staying in my head longer than the MC.
I am sure as all of us have read hundreds of books
there must be several characters we would love to meet and maybe even date.
Which character do you want to meet or date in real life?
That's awesome that you fell in love with the secondary characters. Not all writers focus enough on them. Not thought about the question you raised about who to date. I'll have to think about it some.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to make the secondary characters come to life like that.
ReplyDeleteNone I'd want to date, but I'd like to meet Preston and Child's Agent Pendergast.
I'd like to meet Gansey, from The Raven Cycle series. Seems like an awesome guy. Plus, he's rich. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove when characters com dot life - and you're so right. It's tough to pull off with the 2ndary ones! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to meet Scarlet and Rhett. They're interesting people. But I'd also like to have coffee with Margaret Mitchell too!
ReplyDeleteI love secondary characters. They flesh out and enrich a story.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part I am smart enough to know the characters I love on the page are not the ones I'd really want my page. I really love a damaged survivor sort, but they make for better fiction than reality. I think Gale (the Hunger Games series) is the last one who might also be a good guy in real life.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question! I'll have to give that some thought. I agree, writers who create characters like that are doing something right. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great question! I love it when characters in a book come to life and I still think about them long after I've read the last page. Since I'm on an author high right now with my cover reveal, maybe I'd want to meet one of my own characters. Probably Trey? Lol. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I think The Marquis from Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. Love him!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question. The last three stories I read--none. Good stories, but I wouldn't want to know them IRL. Before that... I'll have to ponder it.
ReplyDeleteI've come across both main and secondary characters I want to read. The authors make them jump off the pages with amazing personalities.
ReplyDeletevery good and nice sharing this article and good for all people
