My January IWSG Post

Happy New Year to all of you. May 2019 be filled with writing achievements for everyone. May the God Of Publishing smile down upon us and may the muse never leave our side.

The first IWSG of 2019 has arrived, bringing with it a whole new world of hope. IWSG (Insecure Writer’s Support Group) is an online group of writers who post on the first Wednesday of every month. Our IWSG posts are centered around our writing insecurities, worries and anxieties, which we happily post without a fear of being judged as many other writers are in the same boat.

IWSG was started by Ninja Captain Alex J Cavanaugh, a super musician, a best-selling author, a wonderful blogger, and a good Samaritan all rolled into one amazing package, who has various names to his credit: Amazing Alex, Super A, Rockstar Alex, Angel Alex, Ninja Captain, Courteous Cavanaugh, Captain Cool…. Before I get carried by Alex’s names, I must tell you that he is the author of the Amazon Bestsellers: CassaStar, CassaStorm, CassaFire and Dragon of the Stars. If you haven’t read his books go buy them ASAP. You will thank me for introducing you to this wonderful author. Do visit the IWSG website for amazing and informative posts from publishing experts.

The awesome co-hosts for the January 2 posting of IWSG are Patricia Lynne, Lisa Buie-Collard, Kim Lajevardi and Fundy Blue.

January 2 question – What are your favourite and least favourite questions people ask about your writing?

My favourite question is what are you writing next (I’m always excited to talk about my writing projects) and my least favourite question is when is your next book coming out (I wish the publishing schedule works according to my diktat and not to the publishers’ moods and fancies).

Looking forward to reading all your posts.

  2. We can't control when a book comes out but we can control what we are writing!

  3. Happy New Year! I'm never excited to talk about my writing (especially with people I know in everyday life and not just online). Maybe that will change when I actually finish something.

  4. Happy New Year! Yes, the question about publication suggests that it should come out soon, something we definitely can't control when we work with an editor.

  5. I think I've only ever been asked what I'm working on next once. That was a nice question to receive.

    Happy New Year!

  6. We share the same least favorite question! Great minds think alike. I do love talking about what I'm working on. Happy New Year!!

  7. It's so nice when people ask what I'm working on but it also makes me nervous because I feel like when I start talking about it I give the worst synopsis ever and make the project sound awful LOL. I need to work on that.
    Happy New Year!!

  8. I'm with Julie. I love being asked for an elevator pitch on my current project. The more I stumble, the tighter my pitch gets. Happy IWSG Day!

  11. Oh that is a nice question: "what are you working on next?" I wish someone would ask me that, although to be honest I get so hung up on whatever my current project is I'm not sure what my answer would be.

  12. Happy New Year, Rachna! All the best in 2019! I enjoyed your questions.... I especially like your favorite. It gives us a chance to show our passion for our next exciting story.

  13. That's why one of the first things I do is give a newly signed author a release date, even if it's almost a year away. You need to know those things.

  14. Publishing does take a long time, start to finish. Even in self/publishing. Ah well, good things come to those who wait.

  15. It must be frustrating to wait for that publication date to materialize! I hope the time passes quickly, Rachna! All the best to you in 2019!

  16. I do love when people ask for more books and share your frustration in never having an easy answer for when the book will be available.

  17. It is fun to talk about the book we're writing. I have to be careful not to tell too much because then I'll lose interest since I've already "told" the story. My attitude toward synopses, too. Have a great month.

  18. I think that's a very positive question and it shows interest in what you love to do. Happy 2019!

  19. Lol, this seems to be the opposite ends of the same question! Publishing deadline can kill the creative vibe. Uck; and yay publishing, lol.

  20. I don't mind too much what people ask about my writing – I'm just pleased they're showing an interest.

  21. Rachna, like you I am always excited to talk about my latest and greatest. I take the time to measure people and if and how much they want to listen. If they have a few minutes I'll tell them a summary then expound until I think they've had enough.

  22. At least they're both well-meaning questions - people are showing an interest. Hope you have a productive 2019!

  23. Happy New Years! I often get asked when the next sequel comes out, but it's up to the publisher, not me (shrug).
