X is for Xcitement

X is for xcitement. I know I am cheating, but there was no emotion starting with the alphabet X. So, I tweaked the spelling a little by dropping off the E.

Shiny New Ideas always xcite us writers. I am a ball of nervous xcitement whenever I start working on any new project. I am like a small child with a shiny new toy.

This xcitement sustains me through the first draft. Good news xcites me. My cheques xcite me (not that they are very big, nevertheless, I am happy with them). When I hear about a new agent or a new publisher I am xcited.

Do you get xcited when you start a new project? Does good news xcite you?

Note: this is my post for the A to Z Challenge. My theme is Emotions and Feelings writers experience.

  1. Dear Rachnar,
yes maybe no direct emotion for writers but lets look at Xenophobic. This is a feeling of fear of foreigners. As a writer, I was scared of what people not used to my 'settings, coutnry, tradition, religion etc' would make of me and my book. But above all, I was scared of my own people's reaction. My X post coincidentally is Xenophobia do check out hahaha

  3. You're not cheating. X is hard to use otherwise. And yes, I get excited thinking of new projects.

  5. I don't know whether I'm more excited to start a project or finish one. But right now I'm excited about researching one of my family lines that I have not worked on much.

  6. I love that feeling when a new idea takes hold. You feel it in your gut and everything just kind of zings. :)

  7. Being paid is certainly exciting! Although all too often these days, my payments come in the form of emails telling me I have money in my PayPal account, rather than paper checks.

  9. My excitement builds as I write. By the time I reach the end, I'm really excited about the idea. Yeah, I do everything backwards.

  10. Good choice. Yes, excitement for a new project can be wonderful. I get excited every time I finish a little bit of the story and can put it behind me (until the revisions).

  12. As long as there's an X in the word...which makes me a TOTAL cheater.

I used to get more excited about things. I occasionally do still, but there's so much responsibility weighing me down, I find it hard to get too stoked. It costs energy--energy I can't spare. It needs to be used elsewhere!

  19. Excitement can be very invigorating but i think we can't rely on it to keep us going. Not sure being excited all the time would be a good thing.
