Z is for Zombie

Z is for the zombie feeling that we have after we have spent the better part of the night, either writing, revising, editing or reading a crit partner’s work. I have had many such Zombie feelings and they can be pretty nasty. I look at the world through dazed eyes. My reactions become a bit slow and all I want is my bed and pillow for the next few days.

One night I sat till 2:30 a.m reading my crit partner’s manuscript and making my notes on it for him. The next morning I went for my usual workout at 6:20 a.m.  I could barely keep my eyes open. I practically slept through my morning walk.

What brings on the zombie feeling for you?

Note: this is my post for the A to Z Challenge. My theme is Emotions and Feelings writers experience.

P.S. Thanks to all my blog buddies for visiting my blog everyday and leaving such wonderful comments. I appreciate the time and effort each one of you took to make this Challenge so interesting for us by giving us such wonderful themes and interesting posts.

P.P.S. My next post will be on 7th May for the IWSG.

  4. I had that when I was so sick and couldn't sleep that well and had to rush the next morning to attend a photo shoot (that we had to do for one of our mags). :-)

  6. I'm a morning person, so I try not to do anything that requires clear thinking after 9 pm. But if I'm on a roll with research or writing my blog, I can stay up quite late and then pay for it the next day because my internal clock is still set for 0 dark 30.

Rashna, I have really enjoyed your thought-provoking posts about emotions. Now go work on that hard-back book!

  11. When I'm in the flow of writing and I'm interrupted, I often have to blink and bring myself back to reality. It's a surreal, zombie-like feeling. :)

    Happy Z Day!

  17. I have to have eight hours. I write all day...so if I don't get enough sleep, I end up sleepy while I'm writing. I still power through, though.

  20. It's a normal state of being for me, because I always want to get more done, so I stay up late, then get up early for a head start...but it's the life I chose. :-)

  21. I usually get that zombie feeling more from reading than writing/editing. I especially don't like to edit if I'm tired because I miss so much more.

  22. I think that most A to Z'ers are in the zombie stage at this moment...
Congratulations on reaching the A to Z finishing line, Rachna!

  23. Hi Rachna
I feel like a zombie now. I've felt so confused today. I think if I'd had one more letter to go I would not have made it.
Congratulations on having made it to the finishing line.
    We need to relax.

  24. Perfect ending for the A to Z. Congrats on finishing.

I often get zombie attacks right after lunch on busy days. I indulge in a one hour nap. Works wonders for me.

  30. Congrats on completing the challenge! I was laughing at your zombie post, until it got to the part about staying up late to read a crit partner's work...oh gosh, was that one my fault? Stay strong:)

  33. Hi, Rachna,

Congrats on completing the challenge ... YAY! Glad you are taking some time off....

I have zombie moments, but mine are created from my allergies. I have major sinus conditions that give me that ZOMBIE feel often, especially this time of year with the fluctuation in temps...

    Hope you enjoy your weekend!

  34. Congrats on finishing the challenge--lots of good writing!

Oh not sleeping definitely turns me into a zombie. I can talk ok, but when someone has a question, that is when it is evident that I did not get enough sleep. Haha.

  35. I love your theme of emotions... exploring them from A to Z is a very cool exercise!

I'll bet you have recovered from the challenge by now, and are gearing up for more awesome writing!!

  36. I become a zombie after my third all-nighter of writing . . . I'm usually okay as an insomniac . . . but writing several nights in a row definitely affects me.

Congrats on finishing! I enjoyed your theme and I *have* to make some time to catch up on the ones I missed. We did it! :)

    See you on Wednesday!
